West Indies all-rounder Andre Russell went down in history in Match 27 of the DP World ILT20 on Saturday, February 1. Playing for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders, Russell has become the fastest player to achieve 9000 runs in T20 cricket as far as balls faced. The West Indian achieved this feat in 5321 balls in the game against Gulf Giants when he hit Tom Curran for a four. Meanwhile, Russell's innings could only last for six balls for which he scored only nine runs. The Jamaica-born surpassed the record of Glenn Maxwell who reached the same mark in 5915 balls. The players after the duo are AB de Villiers (5985 balls), Kieron Pollard (5988 balls), Chris Gayle (6007 balls) and Alex Hales (6175 balls) in that order. Russell is the 25th man on the list when it comes to most runs scored in T20 cricket. He has 9004 runs from 536 matches and an average of 26.79 with a healthy strike rate of 169.15. The 36-year-old boasts 31 half-centuries and two hundreds under his belt. Meanwhile, the leader of the pack is a compatriot, Chris Gayle, with 14,562 runs in 463 games. His medium-fast bowling has given him 466 wickets at an average of 25.55 and an economy rate of 8.71. The West Indian is not yet done with international cricket but does it for franchise teams most of the time. It's been an average outing for the all-rounder in this edition of DP World ILT20, well below his high standards. So far, in nine innings, he has contributed 130 runs at a strike rate of 158.53, with as many as seven fours and 12 sixes. On the bowling front, Russell has scalped two wickets from three innings at an economy rate of 11.42. Meanwhile, it's the Knight Riders who are at the bottom of the table, still battling for a direct qualification berth via knock-outs. They will also hope for some other results coming in their favour to stand a chance of qualification. Abu Dhabi would play their final league match on Sunday, February 2, against Dubai Capitals at the Dubai International Stadium, Dubai.
