In disappointing news for the Sydney Sixers, their captain Alyssa Healy has been ruled out of their Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 season opener against Perth Scorchers on Sunday with a thumb injury. Healy sustained this thumb injury during the ICC Women’s ODI World Cup semi-final clash against India, where they suffered a disappointing loss and were knocked out of the tournament. Healy got a blow on her right thumb when she dropped a sharp chance off Jemimah Rodrigues while keeping up with fast bowler Kim Garth. The Australian skipper was in pain but took some treatment and went back to keeping. She had appeared with her injured thumb in a splint. As quoted by cricket.com.au, Healy mentioned: “It’s WBBL time, so it’s not unlike me to have some sort of injury. I copped a little knock in the semi-final which I’m sure a few people probably saw, but we’ll see what unfolds over the next four weeks.” However, Sydney Sixers later confirmed that Healy’s injury is not serious and termed it as ‘minor’; confirming that she will not travel to Perth for Sunday’s clash. They further mentioned that she will only return after recovering from this injury and will be comfortable in doing her wicketkeeping duties. Alyssa Healy has been struggling with her injuries lately; she also missed out on two World Cup league games with a calf strain before turning to the semi-final clash against India. It is worth mentioning that Healy has appeared in just 5 matches in her last two WBBL seasons. The Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL) 2025 season is set to kick off on November 8 with a clash between the defending champions, Melbourne Renegades and Perth Scorchers.
