64 matches have been completed in Tata IPL 2025 and all the top four spots have been locked in already for the playoffs as the tournament approaches its business end. The four qualifying teams are Gujarat Titans, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians, but none of these teams is guaranteed a top 2 finish yet. This season got its top four teams with 7 league games remaining- which are the most in any IPL season ever. All the teams have never qualified officially this early in any of the previous seasons. The Beauty of Qualifier 1 After an official qualification, every thing that an IPL team desires is a confirmed spot in the Qualifier 1. The two teams finishing at the top of the points table get to face each other in the Qualifier 1. The huge advantage that both of them have is that the team winning it, finds itself directly in the Final while the losing team doesn't get eliminated. It proceeds to Qualifier 2 and faces the winner of the Eliminator and thus has another chance to make it to the Final. Meanwhile the teams finishing at the third and fourth position lock horns with one another in the Eliminator with the loser of the match getting eliminated from the tournament. While the winner has to win another match, that is, Qualifier 2 in order to proceed to the Final. Therefore the teams ending up in top 2 have a significant advantage. Any of the four qualified teams can secure them. However, RCB, GT and PBKS have greater chances of ending up at the top. RCB can get a maximum of 21 points, GT can get to 20 points and PBKS can get to 21 points as well but MI can only go upto a maximum of 18 points. Looking at the fixtures and the performance of the opponent teams, one might say that RCB and GT have the best chances of sealing a spot for themselves in the Qualifier 1 to be played in Mullanpur. But we have seen time and again that the IPL is an extraordinary league and it is never easy to make a simple prediction. It has been surprising us for almost two decades now and the only way we can know an outcome is after actually watching it. One thing is for sure that is, all of the four teams will put in the required hard yards in order to finish at the top of the table. It will be really interesting to see who actually does it.
