The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has yet again changed its selection committee right after the team suffered yet another home Test loss, this time against England. It was in the aftermath of England's massive innings win in Multan that the PCB announced it would add Aleem Dar, Aaqib Javed, and Azhar Ali to the committee, which will comprise of Asad Shafiq, analyst Hassan Cheema, the team captain, and the coach. Therefore, the voting members at the selection committee tally up to seven. Further, four members are non-voting: assistant coach Azhar Mahmood, Bilal Afzal - advisor to the chairman PCB, Director of High-Performance Nadeem Khan, and Usman Wahla who heads International Cricket as its director. These new appointments come just 10 days after Mohammad Yousuf resigned from the panel. No head of the committee has been named, but this change means that Pakistan has had 26 different selectors since August 2021. The new committee has a pressing task ahead as they need to pick a squad for the second Test, also in Multan, starting next Tuesday. The PCB has only announced the first Test squad, which means changes are expected in the rest of the series as performances of four-five players are under review. Pakistan now finds themselves at the bottom of the WTC points table with just 16 points from eight matches. The selection panel was reshuffled at the start of the year by PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi, but there wasn't a chief selector. Wahab Riaz and Abdul Razzaq were relieved following Pakistan's early exit from the T20 World Cup in June, but no replacements were announced. Yousuf's resignation last month also left Shafiq as the only voting member besides the captain and coach. Aleem Dar is made a selector. It is quite an occasion for the umpire. He stepped down from being a part of the panel of the ICC last year. He continues to umpire both domestic and international matches till date, but he recently announced that this season was going to be the final for him as a professional umpire.
