The Indian fast bowler Akash Deep has been an important asset for the Indian fast bowling unit. In a recent interaction with PTI, he recalled how Indian coach Gautam Gambhir backed him more than he backed himself. Reflecting on Gambhir's attitude, Akash Deep said that he supported the players and their talents. Especially coming as a nightwatchman in the second innings at The Oval, Akash unleashed his batting talent, hitting his maiden Test fifty. Recalling Gambhir's words, Akash said, "You aren't aware of your capabilities. See, I was telling you, you can do it. You have to play with this dedication always. Gautam bhai is a very passionate coach. He always motivates us. He believes in me more than I believe in myself, in both my batting and my bowling." Akash Deep scored 66 runs with the bat in the second innings of the final Test. Not only that, he stood with Yashasvi Jaiswal for a 131-run partnership. Akash felt that Shubman didn't look new to his assignment. and is supportive for his players. Also, Akash shared his experience when he played under Gill's captaincy in Duleep Trophy last year. Akash said, "He is a very good captain. It's not like he's a new captain. He's already been an IPL captain for a couple of years, which is a big platform, and that experience counts." He added, "With Shubman as captain, I didn't feel like I was playing for the first time. He's very supportive. When a captain backs you and understands things well, especially when you're down, it makes a big difference. "I played in the Duleep Trophy under his captaincy last year, so it wasn't the first time. He's a cool customer with plenty of ideas, and when someone is calm, it helps in making good on-field decisions." Notably, Akash played six innings and took 13 wickets. His average is 36.46 and has maintained an economy of 4.34.
