Bengal pacer Akash Deep looks like a good fit for the Adelaide Test, feels Indian former Head Coach Ravi Shastri. Despite Harshit Rana having a great outing at Perth, Shastri feels that Akash Deep is necessary as the pink ball Test favours more swing. In the Border Gavaskar Trophy, India is 1-0 ahead after a 295-run huge win at Perth. India had two debutants, Harshit Rana and Nitish Reddy, and both of them were phenomenal at Perth. Rana took four wickets, which included one of Travis Head in the first inning. However, Shastri feels that if India wants extra bounce, they may go with Rana, but if they want swing, Akash Deep is the choice. Speaking to the ICC Review, he said, "The only thing that you must remember, is this is a pink-ball Test. I know Harshit Rana did very well in that Test match, but the pink ball with extra lacquer, it's a little harder and might seam around a bit and swing. (That's) where I think Akash Deep should be in the mix. Now when you reach the ground, you see the conditions, [whether] you opt for extra bounce and pace, that's your choice. But I'd definitely keep him (Akash Deep) in that 12 and keep an eye on him." Scenario for India's qualification in WTC final The Border Gavaskar Trophy is crucial for India when it comes to their qualification for the World Test Championship final in 2025. India needs to win at least three of the five Tests, however, without loosing one, if they spare to depend on other teams. Otherwise, the performance of countries like New Zealand, South Africa, and Sri Lanka will be vital for India's qualification.
