During the Anderson-Tendulkar Series, a rumor surfaced that India won more matches without its ace fast bowler, Jasprit Bumrah. Even stats were published showing the claims were not entirely baseless, even though they were countered by saying India's overdependency on Bumrah restricted good use of other bowlers in the team. In a recent interview with CNN-News18 Cricketnext, India's rising fast bowler Akash Deep debunked such claims. He felt that such claims were somehow demeaning Jasprit Bumrah's efforts on the field. Akash said, "I don’t think that’s the right way to look at it. Winning or losing a match shouldn’t be linked to one individual’s presence or absence. Bumrah bhai has won countless matches for India with his bowling. Even on this tour, I remember in the first match he took a five-wicket haul, and then again at Lord’s he picked another five-for. So, I don’t agree with that equation at all. Whenever he has played, he’s always given match-winning performances for the team." The pitches were relatively flatter, with batters piling up marathon centuries. Despite that, Akash Deep has a good tour. Notably, he had a 10-wicket haul at Edgbaston, the third test, which India won by a massive margin of 336 runs. However, Akash recalled the indifference of the pitch behavior, tagging it with a filmy dialogue from "run". Akash said, "Actually, when I was in India, I was very happy just thinking about going to England to play. I had heard so much about those conditions. But when I actually went there and saw the wickets and the conditions myself, it was very different from what I’d imagined. I recalled the scene from that Hindi movie (Run), ‘Chhoti Ganga bata kar naale mein kuda diya’. (laughs) That’s exactly how it felt." He added, "Because there was no swing, no seam movement, runs were flowing freely – teams were making 400-plus scores. But I still had to play that match. So, I told myself: the only thing in my control is to put the ball in the right areas. If I start overthinking the conditions, I’ll only put more pressure on myself. So, I stuck to that – bowling in the right areas, sticking to my strengths." Notably, Akash Deep is suffering from a back niggle and enjoying his time with his family. Recently, he bought a Toyota Fortuner, which came in news, due to legal obligations. Akash Deep played three Tests in the series, took 13 wickets, with an average of 36.46.
