Former Indian cricketer Akash Chopra lashed out on the Indian Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, blaming him for putting more work load on Nitish Kumar Reddy. Nitish had been regularly playing the 5-match Border Gavaskar Test series and now has been added in the T20I squad for the home series in England. However, he has been ruled out from the rest of the series due to an injury. Nitish succumbed to the injury in the series opener at Kolkata, and this has triggered Chopra for ignoring Nitish's underlying injury, especially after the heavy Test series. Even though Nitish did not bat or bowl in the first T20I, Chopra questioned his workload management, calling that each body responds differently. On his YouTube Channel, Chopra said, "Nitish Kumar Reddy is injured. He has been ruled out of the entire series. You must be thinking, 'What would've happened?' I am wondering how this would have happened. When you start playing international cricket, the workload is different." During the Border Gavaskar Trophy, Reddy played all five Test matches and had been one of the leading run scorers from the team, amassing 298 runs that included a century, saving India from defending an insulting total. Besides the last few innings, he had been an assured run getter down the order. Even though he was not remarkable with the ball, he got a few crucial wickets as well. Coming back to India, he became a part of India's T20 squad. Chopra feels that he might have been strained during the Test series, and that has been overlooked. Chopra added, "Workload and pressure go hand in hand. He played 5 Tests in Australia. He performed there. He was on the ground consistently. He batted and even bowled a little. It takes a toll. Believe it or not, he is a young kid. The body sometimes doesn't last that long. Suddenly, you realise there is an injury. I think something has happened. Maybe the body wasn't ready for this type of workload and pressure, and he broke down. Shivam Dube has been called into the squad in place of Nitish Kumar Reddy." India is currently ahead 2-0 in the series and has the opportunity to seal the win in Rajkot when they face England in the third T20I on Tuesday.
