In the latest development, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has asked the Indian National Cricket Team chief selector Ajit Agarkar to stay in Australia for the entire duration of Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) 2024-25. The reason that is coming out is that the BCCI wants Agarkar to discuss the future roadmap and plans with Gautam Gambhir. Now, the BCCI wants to rectify the decisions made during that series, so they are planning to make Agarkar stay in Australia for the entire duration of BGT to discuss the prospects and planning of the Indian Cricket Team. As quoted by the Times of India (TOI), a BCCI source said: “Both Agarkar and Gambhir know that such poor performance in India will trigger widespread criticism, which is justified. Since it’s a long tour, both can sit together and discuss how things can be taken forward after the tour. Both will need at least a year and a half to build a team with strong backup. That’s where both have to be on the same page about the process.” The same source further mentioned that the officials will soon discuss the future of senior Indian team players. He said that officials know the importance of these players but they will be taking some tough calls. The source further said: “These senior players are still a very important part of the team. But one may expect some tough discussions as well. The seniors will be kept in the loop about the vision of the selectors and coach. They will be asked to share how they plan their careers going into the next World Test Championship cycle and the ODI World Cup being about two years away.” The first Test match between India and Australia of the BGT series will be played in Perth from November 22.
