Earlier all-rounder Shams Mulani and then Ajinkya Rahane, with their batting efforts, took Mumbai to a respectable score in the Mumbai vs. Haryana Ranji Trophy quarterfinal at Eden Gardens. Ajinkya Rahane delivered a brilliant performance for Mumbai in their Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Haryana. The seasoned batter scored his 41st first-class century on Tuesday, February 11, as Mumbai poised the pace of the match in Kolkata. Rahane, who had been unbeaten on 88 overnight, reached his 29th first-class century during the morning session, marking his 200th first-class match in a fitting manner. His century was crucial in pushing Mumbai's lead past 300 runs, with Mumbai now in a much-respected position. Rahane's knock of 108 came off 180 balls, including 13 boundaries. His century was the first of the 2024-25 Ranji Trophy season, a milestone he achieved with patience and precision. The Mumbai captain’s partnership with Suryakumar Yadav, which added 129 runs, also helped stabilize the innings. Yadav made a solid 70 before being dismissed. Mumbai’s middle order, led by all-rounder Shivam Dube (48), also contributed significantly, further solidifying their lead. Mumbai's Stronghold and Rahane's Consistency After a challenging first innings, where Mumbai had been reduced to 113 for 7, Rahane's leadership and batting were vital in helping the team recover. Mumbai finished with a total of 315, thanks to contributions from Shams Mulani (91) and Tanush Kotian (97). In the first innings, Mumbai's bowlers responded strongly. Shardul Thakur led the charge, taking six wickets to dismiss Haryana for 301, giving Mumbai a crucial 14-run first-innings lead. Rahane has been consistent in domestic cricket, scoring 437 runs in the ongoing Ranji season, including a century and two half-centuries. This consistency comes after he hasn't featured in India's Test team since July 2023. Rahane also made an impression in the Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 tournament earlier this season, showcasing his form ahead of the IPL 2025 season, where he will return to Kolkata Knight Riders after two seasons with Chennai Super Kings.
