Veteran Indian batter Ajinkya Rahane noted that T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav had a forgetful series with the bat against England in the first half of this year. The latter scored only 28 runs off five innings at a strike rate of 116.66. But the previous India Test skipper spoke of Suryakumar's resplendent return in the following Indian Premier League (IPL), when he became the first batsman to achieve 25-plus scores in 16 successive innings in the history of the tournament. Suryakumar ended as the second-highest run-scorer in IPL 2025, accumulating 717 runs at 65.18 with a strike rate of 167.91. Rahane termed Suryakumar as a lethal batter but stated that it will be great to see how he gets his business done after having a sports hernia surgery in June. Here is what Rahane said on his YouTube channel: "Didn't have a good series against England, but came back to form in IPL with five fifties and finished as the second-highest run-scorer in the tournament with a healthy strike rate. We all know Surya is a dangerous batter. In this format, he has done really well. But it will be interesting to see how he goes about his batting, especially after the surgery," Read aso: Who was Aseem Saeed? The former Kolkata Knight Riders skipper also mentioned that Suryakumar's batting performance will be the key to the Men in Blue in the Asia Cup. "As a captain, he has been fantastic. He is a proactive captain, led the team really well in the past, but I feel, in this Asia Cup, his batting will be really important," he added. India have been placed in Group A of the Asia Cup. The champions from last year will start their campaign on September 10 against the UAE in Dubai. The two other teams in this group are Pakistan and Oman. Group B includes Sri Lanka, Afghanistan, Hong Kong, and Bangladesh. Indian T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav has been one of India's top performers with the bat in the shortest version of the game. He has always been outscoring the other batsmen and making a huge contribution with the bat. So far in his T20I career, he has scored 2,598 runs at 167.07 strike rate, with four centuries and 21 half-centuries. Going into the Asia Cup 2025, his batting will be key to India's success, and he will also be hoping to meet the expectations of the fans.
