The AfghanAtalan, aka the Afghanistan Men's team, has pledged to donate their match fees in the match against the UAE in the ongoing tri-series for the fatal earthquake victims In Afghanistan's Kunar province. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has issued an official statement that said that there will be additional donations for the affected families. The statement further said that the country's regional teams will collect respective donations. The statement said, “AfghanAtalan Show Solidarity with Kunar Earthquake Victims! Afghan Atalan have committed all their match fees from tonight’s game against the UAE, as well as additional donations, to assist the families affected by the recent earthquake in Kunar province." It further said, “Additionally, players involved in the ongoing Regional List A Tournament in Khost province will also gather their donations tomorrow. These contributions will be immediately sent to support the affected families in Kunar during this difficult time." Afghanistan was hit with a brutal earthquake hitting 6.0 on the richter scale, snatching at least 1,100 lives and leaving 3,500 people injured. It has multiple major aftershocks, with three villages in Kunar being hit massively. The rescuers, according to Afghan Media and Research Centre's head, Abdul Jabbar Behir, are struggling to reach the remote areas near the Pakistan border deprived of basic mobile networks. The country has also deployed airforces and helicopters carrying away the wounded and dead. Notably, this is the third time that a massive earthquake has hit the country after the Taliban took over the country in 2021. The taliban government has reached out for foreign help, and India has confiremed of sending 1000 residential tents to kabul. Afghanistan faces frequent and severe earthquakes, especially in the Hindu Kush mountains, a region where the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates converge.
