Afghanistan have released their teams for the imminent white-ball series against Bangladesh with several changes after a disappointing Asia Cup 2025 campaign. The Afghanistan Cricket Board has excluded some veteran players like left-arm pacer Fazalhaq Farooqi and veteran all-rounders Gulbadin Naib and Karim Janat as the team aims to salvage its reputation after early exit from the continental tournament. The series of six match will start with three T20Is in Sharjah from October 2-5 followed by three ODIs in Abu Dhabi from October 8-14. This represents a crucial chance for Afghanistan to regain momentum going into big tournaments. The selection panel has put a lot of effort into youth development by bringing in new faces. Bashir Ahmad, 20-year-old uncapped left-arm seamer, has been selected in both the formats as a direct replacement for Farooqi. Bashir, who has no international experience, has impressed in domestic cricket with 12 wickets in 14 T20 games. Another promising addition is 18-year-old opener Wafiullah Tarakhil, who has been added to the T20I side after a fine Shpageeza Cricket League season where he finished as the third-highest run-scorer with 298 runs at a strike rate of 155.20. Mystery spinner AM Ghazanfar is retained in the ODI squad but made reserve for T20Is. Afghanistan spin department is still strong despite the reshuffle, including Khan, Noor Ahmad, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, and Mohammad Nabi in T20Is. The series gains more weight as Afghanistan aims to recover from their shameful Asia Cup defeat where they were eliminated at the group stage although they entered the tournament as the second-best team after India. Their close eight-run loss to Bangladesh in the Asia Cup provides more motivation.
