Afghanistan men's cricket team head coach Jonathan Trott complimented the Indian team, terming them as one of the favorites in the current Asia Cup. India opened their Asia Cup 2025 journey on a high note, winning both group stage matches against the UAE and Pakistan. The Indian side won convincingly, beating the UAE nine wickets and Pakistan seven wickets, both times batting second. Trott also praised Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav, adding that becoming captain brought an added responsibility to his position. Here is what Trott was quoted as saying by Tribune India: “Every team that India puts out nowadays always has a very good side. Asia Cup in these conditions, we saw them in the Champions Trophy here 50 over. It would be foolish not to say they are one of the favourites. I think Suryakumar Yadav is a fantastic player, as he’s captain now. So it’s an extra added responsibility, so I look forward to seeing how he goes with that leadership role,” Also Read | Ramiz Raja Calls Andy Pycroft India’s 'Permanent Fixer'; Numbers Disagree At the same time, Afghanistan star all-rounder Gulbadin Naib too showered lavish praises over the Indian team and termed them the best Asian and world side. With this victory, the Litton Das team held on to their second position in the group, with two wins, one defeat, and four points. They will be waiting anxiously for the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka match, which determines their status in the tournament. Sri Lanka tops the table with two victories from as many games.
