The star Afghanistan spinner Rashid Khan expressed his wish to play one international match in Afghanistan's homeland. Notably, after the Taliban acquired the land, the Afghanistan Cricket Board had to operate from outside, mostly hosting nations at neutral venues like the United Arab Emirates. However, being a native, the 26-year-old wished to have one match in Afghanistan. Recently, as per the released Future Tour Programme (FTP), Afghanistan is likely to host the West Indies and New Zealand in January and February, and that too in Afghanistan. However, Rashid feels that it is actually a dream, especially with the chaotic situation in his country. In an event based in Dubai, Rashid said, “That's in FTP for now. But when the time comes, it’s only then you will know whether it’s happening. There have been so many games scheduled in Afghanistan in the FTP over the years, but have never taken place. But hopefully it happens. It's good for cricket and good for Afghanistan." He added, "Well, if it eventually happens, that will be a kind of dream to play international cricket in Afghanistan. I hope that comes before I retire from the sport. That's something which I dream of – playing in front of my home crowd. So, hopefully, that happens in the future." As a team, we have just kept going and going, and we have supported that confidence. We're not getting enough cricket you want as a nation, especially against the big sides. The more opportunities you get, the better you get." Afghanistan aim for a strong Asia Cup 2025 run, with a Pakistan T20 series as key prep. Rashid Khan, despite recent injury dip, remains crucial with 400+ international wickets.
