The one-off Test match between Afghanistan and New Zealand was supposed to be a historic game, but so far, it has been in the headlines for all the wrong reasons. The game is suffering from delays due to below par drainage and poor facilities. The worst situation came forward when unhygienic conditions at the stadium added even more problems. The staff at the grounds did try to get the field ready on the second day of the Test match, but all that caught the eyes were the caterers washing their utensils and filling water from a bathroom tap at the Shaheed Vijay Singh Pathik Stadium. This has been a sign of poor catering service at the venue as Afghanistan's cricketers' complaints about mismanagement were not wrong. Ok so catering here at Greater Noida stadium is using urinal washroom Water tap for their water needs 😯 very hygienic 👍#AFGvNZ TEST #afgvsnz test #gnoidastadium pic.twitter.com/VCWVA5r2vv — Nitin K Srivastav (@Nitin_sachin) September 10, 2024 While Afghanistan has played numerous matches in Greater Noida, they don't want to play more than that in the same place. ACB officials told that instead, they would want to use the Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow as their home venue for future matches. Expressing his disappointment, an ACB official said: "There are no facilities. We will never come here again. Our preference will be Lucknow." He further added: "There are no basic facilities. There is complete mismanagement at the venue. Even the players are not happy with good, training facilities and everything." On September 10, the ground staff had to dig up a two to three feet area near mid-on and used artificial grass in an attempt to make the field playable. All basic facilities at the stadium were amiss and the rains brought on all these shortcomings. The organisers were forced to use hired covers and fans from a tent house among others to salvage the situation. If it rains again in Greater Noida, the field conditions may not be safe enough to continue with international cricket, as players could get hurt. Again on Day 2, the coin toss was delayed, and subsequently, both teams stayed back in their hotel, knowing that conditions would not get any better anytime sooner.
