Youngster Musheer Khan fractured in a road accident in Uttar Pradesh and will miss the upcoming Irani Cup besides a few Ranji Trophy games. The 19-year-old had clubbed a century against India A in the recently concluded Duleep Trophy and was set to play for Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai in the Irani Cup but the accident has compelled Mumbai to keep him out of plans. It is reported that he was traveling from Kanpur to Lucknow with his father Naushad Khan to play for the Irani Cup. It was on the way that the accident occurred, though details are not shared yet. Meanwhile, Sarfaraz Khan, brother, is already in Kanpur for the second Test between India and Bangladesh. “He didn't travel with the Mumbai team to Lucknow for the Irani Cup. He was probably travelling from Azamgarh, with his father, to Lucknow when the accident happened,” a source told The Times of India. He helped India B win the match against India A and took away all the Player of the match finesse from that match, but he could not carry the momentum into the remaining two matches. Nonetheless, Musheer was pretty much in the reckoning for the selection to the India A team. He really impressed at the U19 level and has done good service for India at the U19 World Cup. Till now he has played nine first-class matches and scored 716 runs at an average of 51.14. In the 2024 Ranji Trophy, Musheer scored a double century against Baroda in the quarter final, a half century against Tamil Nadu in the semis and a century against Vidharbha in the final of the competition. It reflects the pedigree he has got, which also helped him to draw attention from the selections. The upcoming Ranji Trophy was very important for him but now with the injury, one is not sure when he would return.
