In preparation for the Vijay Hazare Trophy with Punjab, Abhishek Sharma was seen performing well in a net session in Jaipur doing power-hitting. The Indian T20I regular appears to be in perfect form, as PTI reports that he looks keen to carry this into the upcoming tournament. For almost an hour at The Anantam Cricket Ground on the outskirts of Jaipur, Abhishek was almost entirely concentrating on attacking play or treating the net session as a six-hitting drill rather than a routine practice. Mixing off-spin, leg-spin, and then left-arm orthodox bowling, Abhishek cleared at least 45 in the net session. The pitch turned sharply with an odd bounce. Some balls tended to stay low, whereas others climbed awkwardly. But in spite of all that, defence was never on his agenda. He was troubled initially by the shorter lengths but adapted very quickly, devouring up meter space with his fantastic footwork into the ball and taking charge of his bowlers. Whenever the bowler shortened his length, he immediately took the pitch and went down track to loft the ball cleanly, often beyond the inner 30 odd. His extra-cover shots sailed over heads, while a few of them landed beyond the boundary near nearby buildings, catching the attention of teammates and support staff witnessing closely. To make his life harder, the coaching staff even added a fielding net at short extra cover to punish miss-hits. Abhishek, who took the bait once again, made instant adjustments choosing straighter options and continuing with his scoring. The BCCI rule did not allow him to bat on the real match strip, so he spent extra time bowling left-arm spin, sharing inputs with coaches. When the nets ended, the Punjab skipper padded up for a while against the pacers and even gave some tips to a young bowler. Overall, clearly a session to show good preparation and confidence in Abhishek for the Vijay Hazare Trophy.
