Sunrisers Hyderabad opening batter Abhishek Sharma has been fined and awarded a demerit point after his team's victory over the Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on Thursday, April 2. The IPL awarded action after determining he used obscene language during the fixture. Abhishek was fined twenty-five per cent of his match fee for the breach. The match referee declared that he contravened Article 2.3 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which pertains to the use of offensive, obscene, and inappropriate language that may be picked up by a stump mic or heard by spectators. The IPL stated that Abhishek pleaded guilty to the offense and no appeal was lodged by the all-rounder. A statement said by the IPL: "Abhishek Sharma, All-rounder, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has been fined 25 per cent of his match fees and has also accumulated one demerit point for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during his team's match against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens, Kolkata, on Thursday. He admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.3 and accepted the Match Referee's sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee's decision is final and binding." The IPL did not disclose when exactly he used obscene language, though many suspect it came when Abhishek was frustrated by being given out for a seemingly marginal call by the third umpire. Varun Chakravarthy completed a fine catch in the deep, and although there was some uncertainty and review, the batter was declared out by the third-umpire. Truth Revealed | Watch Good innings with the bat In spite of the off-field issue, Abhishek produced a strong performance with the bat. After not contributing to SRH's cause in their first game against Royal Challengers Bangalore, he struck form against KKR. He scored 48 off 21 balls with the help of four boundaries and four sixes. Abhishek showed a high level of intent with his stroke play to provide a very quick start for SRH. His cameo helped SRH post a huge total of 226 and the SRH bowlers restricted the KKR to 161 in 16 overs to wrap up a massive victory. With this win SRH grabbed their first points of the tournament and the team will look to take this forward when they take on the Lucknow Super Giants at home on April 5.
