Abhishek Sharma equals Urvil Patel's record as the Indian to have the fastest T20 century after smashing a 28-ball century against Meghalaya in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy in Rajkot on Thursday, December 5. Coming to bat first, Meghalaya posted a target of 143, which Punjab chased down in just 9.3 overs with the help of Sharma's century. Abhishek Sharma smacked 11 sixes and 8 fours, scoring 98 runs just from boundaries. Sharma has been in red-hot form since his leg with Sunrisers Hyderabad in the 2024 IPL. In this season, he has opened with Travis Head and scored 484 runs in 16 matches with a strike rate of 204.21. Even in the Indian team, despite being an irregular face, he has 256 runs from 12 T20I matches at a strike-rate of 171.81. He has got a century against Zimbabwe on his debut. Read Also: Record! Urvil stood unbeaten at 113 runs off 35 balls, hitting seven fours and 12 sixes, helping Gujarat chase 156 runs against Tripura. Urvil also holds the record for the second-fastest hundred in T20s. Earlier, Pant held the record for the fastest hundred for Delhi against Himachal Pradesh back in 2018 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi.
