The Indian cricket team has terminated India's former assistant coach Abhishek Nayar, who spent just 8 months with the team, under the head coachship of Gautam Gambhir. With him leaving, it has opened options of possibilities of new names. Well, BCCI has made no announcement on either of the proceedings. In such a fuss situation, former Indian spinner Harbhajan Singh has opined Ashish Nehra's name as Gambhir's name in the team. Nehra has been with the Gujarat Titans since the beginning and won the title in their inaugural year, 2022, under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya. Despite struggles in the last year, GT is dominating yet again in 2025, topping the table in 12 points. Speaking on his YouTube channel, Harbhajan said, "I think there is no better coach than him for the Indian team in the present scenario. He is a great coach. BCCI should ask him whether he wants to work with the Indian team or not. I don't think he will agree because he won't be able to give that much time. But there it no better option than him." MS Dhoni Clears the Air on Viral Rumour Ashish Nehra breathed life into GT: Harbhajan Singh Ashish Nehra’s dedication as a coach is evident every time Gujarat Titans take the field. Whether it's pre-match drills, the heat of the action, or post-game discussions, Nehra remains deeply engaged. His animated presence near the boundary ropes—constantly guiding and motivating his players—highlights his hands-on approach. During GT’s IPL 2025 opener, he unintentionally became meme material as cameras caught him passionately yelling instructions at a fielder. When not on duty, he's often spotted enjoying coconut water, though rarely away from the action. As Harbhajan Singh notes, IPL season is when Nehra’s unique coaching style truly shines. Harbhajan added, "Well done, Ashish Nehra. From the day he joined, he has breathed life into this team. Every year this team comes prepared. People say that a left-arm spinner can't bowl to left-handed batters, or that an off-spinner can't bowl to right-handed batters, but Ashish Nehra's bowlers have done it all. It is about the mindset, and this is what Ashish Nehra brings." Gujarat Titans’ dominance this year is further reflected in the stats—three of their batters, Sai Sudharsan, Jos Buttler, and Shubman Gill, rank among the top 10 run-scorers, while bowlers like Prasidh Krishna, Sai Kishore, and Mohammed Siraj feature in the top six.
