Abdul Samad dazzled the 36th match in IPL 2025 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) on Saturday with an electrifying cameo for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG). It was in the last over of LSG innings played at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, that they witnessed this bright talent mutilate RR pacer Sandeep Sharma to strike mind-boggling sixes. As LSG showed rich faith in him by picking him at the auction for INR 4.2 crore during IPL 2025, he is now starting to prove that faith. The 23-year-old cricketer hailing from Jammu and Kashmir has been contributing quite a lot with some lower-order runs and demonstrated glimpses of his power-hitting through the tournament. The first six games saw him get scores of 22*, 27, 4, 6, 2*, and 20 runs. But in the seventh game, Samad played an impactful innings unlike any other for LSG. He came to bat at the last over needing 4 off 5 balls, and swiftly changed the course of the game by attacking Sandeep Sharma with a flurry of sixes. On the second one, he smashed the length ball over deep mid-wicket for six and repeated the exercise, with even more conviction, on the next ball. After running a couple of scores, Samad sent the next two into the crowd again, over deep backward square leg and deep mid-wicket, and was now at 30 off just 10 balls. Rajasthan Royals were on the back of a staggering defeat in the match against the Delhi Capitals at The Arun Jaitley Stadium on April 16 regarding a nail-biting Super Over. The IPL team, after chasing 189, reached 188 in response to the Delhi Capitals but fell short in the Super Over, where that great last over from Mitchell Starc made all the difference. In the same game, in the 3rd over English pacer Jofra Archer removed Jake Fraser-McGurk, while an alert excution from Hasaranga and Sandeep Sharma accounted Karun Nair for a duck. But Axar Patel, Tristan Stubbs, and Ashutosh Sharma gave the finishing touches making DC end at a respectable 188/5. RR started their chase with intent when Yashasvi Jaiswal struck 51 off 37 balls, and skipper Sanju Samson smashed 31 off 19 before walking off injured. They middle-order faltered. After Parag’s fall for 8, Nitish Rana came up with a tempestuous innings of 51 off 28 balls to rekindle hopes for RR. Hetmyer (15* off 9) and Jurel (26* off 17) did put up a fight but with pinpoint yorkers, Starc managed to concede only eight when RR needed nine in the final over. Tension was at its peak in the Super Over with both Jaiswal and Parag run out in a matter of five deliveries. DC chased down 12 runs in just four balls.
