South African great AB de Villiers feels that Virat Kohli has some good years remaining in him and that the 2027 ODI World Cup can be the ideal farewell to his impressive ODI career. Kohli has already retired from Tests and T20Is and recently played the three ODIs against Australia. After being ruled out for ducks in the first two games, Kohli shut his critics up with an unbeaten 74 in the third ODI, and India won by nine wickets. Several had started doubting his international cricket future in wake of his slump, but De Villiers defended his previous RCB teammate. 'Kohli Has Changed the Game Forever,' Says de Villiers AB de Villiers praised Kohli’s unmatched impact on cricket, saying the Indian batting great deserves to be celebrated, not criticised. On his YouTube channel, AB de Villiers said: "I want to remind you guys that’s the kind of player you want to celebrate. Allow him to find his balance in life towards the backend of his career. Just celebrate him. He has changed the game forever. He deserves a bit of a ‘thank you’. Hopefully, he plays for another five years, and if not, we are still right behind him." The South African icon also hinted that Kohli’s ODI career might end after the 2027 World Cup, which will be hosted in South Africa. However, he feels Kohli could continue playing in the IPL for several more years. The IPL is a different story. We might see him go for three or four or maybe even five more years. It doesn’t take much out of you, even if it’s intense. You can prepare for two to three months, but a World Cup takes a lot out of your body and mind." Kohli will be next in action during the ODI series against South Africa, which begins on November 30 in Ranchi.
