Aaron Jones might have faced consequences for pulling out of national duty and preferring club cricket instead. The former vice-captain of the USA team has been left out of the team that will take part in the WCL-2 tri-series against Nepal and Scotland that starts on Friday. The selection panel has, however, decided to stick with the same team that toured Namibia in September. Jones opted out of joining the USA team for the tour to Namibia as he was required to fulfill his contract with St. Lucia Kings, the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). This decision has been said to have peeved some of the committee members and officials of USA Cricket. Jones was a local player for CPL and did not need NOC from USA Cricket; these were reasons that provided ammunition for controversy surrounding his choice. In contrast, Andries Gous, who left the Trinbago Knight Riders for the Namibia tour with the USA, has managed to retain his place in the side. Perhaps a run of four ODIs unbeaten in Namibia without Jones made it a task relatively easy to replace him. He was recalled in the T20I squad after his heroics in the CPL final, following his great performance, Jones's streak of low scores in the T20I series against Nepal last week might prove to be a problem while choosing his place in the T20I. He is one of the core players for the white-ball teams of the USA since he has been playing since 2018. Playing for USA-A against the touring Scotland, he notched up a great unbeaten 167. The 21-year-old displayed terrific fitness and mental acuity against the sweltering Dallas heat to help his team chase down the task of 341 to a formidable bowling attack. Interestingly, the selection committee announced the team just when USA-A were starting their chase. It raised a few eyebrows. It might have been even better had the squad been finalized after the game - especially given that the selections were for the same match. Still, it would be good for Krishnamurthy to at least be added as the 16th man in the squad. The USA team is to play their first match of the tri-series against Nepal on Friday.
