He also questioned the timing of his sudden and shocking ODI retirement move, mentioning the impact of this move on the Australian cricket team in the tournament. He felt that the all-rounder should have at least given some confirmation to the head coach and captain before taking such action. Speaking on ESPN Australia’s Around The Wicket podcast, Finch said: "When you've had the faith put in you by the selection, the coach and the captain - maybe a little bit more of a heads up? Saying, 'You know, this is what I am thinking.' I would be surprised if it was an off-the-cuff decision as well, I am sure there would have been planning down the track, there would have been conversations between Andrew McDonald and Marcus Stoinis to try to get to the decision.” The former Australian skipper also mentioned that a busy cricket schedule might have forced Marcus Stoinis to take this move and end his ODI career. Stoinis was a part of Australia’s squad for the white-ball series before playing in the BBL this season and then in SA20. Finch further added: "At the end of the day, each player has the opportunity to decide what their fate is going forward. For me, if you look at Marcus Stoinis for the last couple of years, he's preferred to play the T20 route. Being in Pakistan, then straight to India after a summer of cricket at home, that can potentially be four to five months on the road, so maybe that contributed to the decision.” Australia has announced their official squad for the Champions Trophy in which some of the big names like Pat Cummins, Josh Hazlewood and even Mitchell Starc can be seen missing due to their respective injuries and reasons. Aaron Hardie has been added to the squad as a replacement for Stoinis.
