The 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) mini-auction is likely to be a high-profile event, with the franchises targeting top international and local players to bolster their ranks. A few marquee foreign players and some big domestic names will likely have teams willing to engage in brutal bidding wars in order to acquire them for key positions as the season draws near. Cricketer-turned-commentator Aakash Chopra, a former India opener, feels that Australia's Cameron Green may turn out to be the costliest buy at the IPL 2026 auction. In a video on his YouTube channel, Chopra pointed to Green's current form and his all-rounder's potential, stating that the former Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Mumbai Indians (MI) player is already proving his worth after being back from injury. Here is what Chopra said: “Cameron Green, I feel he could be the most expensive player in the auction. Since he has returned from injury, his batting form is already incredible. He is not yet ready to bowl, but will start bowling at some stage. He is batting in the top order at the moment because he is not bowling,” Also Read: Lucknow Super Giants to Part Ways with Zaheer Khan Ahead of IPL 2026 The 25-year-old all-rounder showed his firepower with the bat for Australia in their first T20I against South Africa on August 10 in Darwin, blasting 35 runs from 13 balls in a 17-run victory. While he could muster only nine runs in the second match two days later, his back to form has won over many, including Chopra. Chopra estimated that if Green gets bowling fit again while retaining his current batting shape, his worth in the IPL 2026 auction might shoot up to historic heights. He believed that Green's unusual set of powerful top-order batting and useful seam bowling would make him one of the most well-rounded T20 all-rounders in the market, with franchises indulging in ferocious bidding wars and maybe making the auction all about him. “If he starts bowling and considering the batting ability he has, he could actually break the bank. People will spend a lot of money on him. That’s what I feel. So this auction could be in Cameron Green’s name,” added Chopra.
