Mohammad Siraj, this time got hurled by his own teammate Ravindra Jadeja after the former threw the ball to the non-striker end, aiming for a runout, but eventually hits Jadeja's finger. Post-lunch, Jadeja was bowling his 8th over when he bowled a delivery towards the offside, which Travis Head successfully defended but stole a run. The ball reached Siraj, who picked it up and threw it recklessly at the non-striker end. However, the ball was flying over the batter's head as Jadeja jumped up to get hold of it and injured his finger. The injury was minor as he resumed the game. However, the situations looked to tense up as commentators too started commenting on that, as English commentator Mark Nicholas said, "There is a bit of civil war on the field as Siraj's enthusiasm gets the better of him. He flung the ball so hard that it could have gone for four byes, but Jadeja gave him a right look. He must have said, 'You almost broke my finger, pal. Take it easy.'" Jasprit Bumrah struck early, removing Usman Khawaja and Nathan McSweeney, giving India hopes. However, a 241-run partnership between Smith and Head wrested control back to Australia. After dismissing Marnus Labuschagne, India seemed poised for a comeback, but Head and Smith counterattacked India's bowling, almost breaking India's base. Bumrah later relieved, taking both of them and Mitchell Marsh completing his fifer. But Australia’s lower order added quick runs to cement their dominance, courtesy of Alex Carey. Head, who scored his second century of the series, continued to be India's bane, while Smith reached his 10th Test ton against India. Despite some early control, India faltered in the later sessions and now faces an uphill battle to match Australia's imposing first-innings total.
