During the opening day of the second Test between Pakistan and Bangladesh at Sylhet on Saturday the Pakistani pace bowler Hasan Ali sustained a concerning head injury. The mishap occurred in the eighth over of Bangladesh's first innings when Hasan Ali was attempting to take a return catch off the bowling of Tanzid Hasan Tamim. After being unable to secure the catch Hasan Ali’s head collided with the ground while executing his follow-through. Hasan Ali appeared distressed after the incident and seemed disoriented while trying to regain his footing before being stretchered off the field after medical personnel swiftly attended to him. The concerned incident caused worry amongst the Pakistan contingent and the spectators, especially given the current precarious position of the Pakistan team in the series following the defeat in the opening Test. The only fast bowler presently in the Pakistan reserves squad is Amad Butt and he might make his Test debut at Hasan Ali's expense. The second Test between Bangladesh and Pakistan commenced with the tourists lagging 1-0 in the two-match Test series after enduring a hefty 104-run defeat in the first Test held at Mirpur. Pakistan has now come under significant criticism having lost the last three matches against Bangladesh, including their comprehensive 2-0 defeat in the home series earlier this year in 2024. Solid start for Bangladesh Prior to the innings, the Pakistan captain won the toss and chose to bowl first. Mohammad Abbas provided an early breakthrough to Pakistan as he dismissed Mahmudul Hasan Joy on the very second ball of the innings. Tanzania Hasan Tamim and Mominul Haque scored 44 runs for the second wicket before Abbas again intervened, having Tanzid caught for 26 off 34 balls. Bangladesh captain Najmul Hossain Shanto again played with positive intent similar to the first Test. Mominul Haque eventually succumbed to Khurram Shahzad and scored 22. At lunch on day one, Bangladesh reached 101/3, with captain Najmul Hossain Shanto on 26 not out and Mushfiqur Rahim on 18 not out.
