Kane Williamson, the star batter from New Zealand who made a steller comeback in the Tests, succumbed to a brain-fade dismissal on Day 1 of the third Test against England at Seddon Park, Hamilton. A bizarre, not-so-Williamson-like incident happened when he kicked the ball towards the stumps that cost him the wicket. New Zealand started the day with a strong 105-run partnership, having Will Young (42) and skipper Tom Latham (63) dictating the English bowlers. Williamson coming to bat at number 3 looked in good touch but cheaply missed his half century getting out at 44 (off 87 balls). Matthew Potts, the English pacer, gave a full-length delivery, which initially got a deflection from the pad, and then deflected off this thigh pad towards the stump. A usual reflex when Williamson tried to block the ball but unfortunately kicked the stumps, gifting his wicket to Potts. However, Mitchell Santner scored a rapid half century, scoring the most with Tim Southe (23) on his side. As speculated earlier, Will Young replaced Devon Conway, who is on his paternal leave, and has proved his worth again. Potts who bagged Williamson got two more wickets, of Tom Latham and Glenn Philips (5). Both Gus Atkinson and Brydon Carse continued their form from the second Test, grabbing three and two wickets, respectively. Ben Stokes took one of Matt Henry. New Zealand, batting first, has put 315 runs on board till now after losing 9 wickets. Notably, England has already won the series by winning two of the previous Test matches.
