The remaining rounds of India's premier red ball domestic tournament, Ranji Trophy 2024-25 will kick off from the 23rd of January 2025 and some big names from the regular Test team of India will mark their presence for the respective state teams. Their return to this domestic tournament is a result of the dismal batting performance of India in the recently completed Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25. Fans and Experts lashed out on some big names for their poor outings in the Test of late and have raised questions on their non-participation in the Ranji Trophy despite being available. Following all these, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has issued a mandate which states that every Indian cricketer, who isn't injured or busy with their international commitments will have to feature in the Ranji Trophy for their respective teams. Post this mandate, few of the regular players from India's Test team, who are available, have agreed to feature in this tournament. Here are five India's Test regulars who will feature in the Ranji Trophy 2024-25's remaining round: 6 India Test Players Set for Ranji Trophy Return Rohit Sharma (Mumbai) Image Source: Getty Images The first name in the list is India's Test and ODI Captain, Rohit Sharma. He had a worst tour to Australia where he only managed only 31 runs in five innings. He also failed to deliver in the home Tests against New Zealand, prior to the BGT, and these consistent failures have raised the eyebrows of many. His poor form has not only allowed the critics to raise queries on his batting, but his captaincy has also come under the scanner. His return to domestic cricket against the Jammu & Kashmir on 23rd January will not only help him to get back in Rhythm by scoring some good runs but will also silence the critics. In the BGT 2024-25, the southpaw amassed 391 runs in 5 Tests, with the highest being 161 at Perth. His return to Ranji Trophy will boost Mumbai's batting and will also give him some game time before the England tour, followed by the much-awaited ICC Champions Trophy 2025 in UAE. Virat Kohli (Delhi) Image Source: Getty Images Another big name in the list is Virat Kohli, who will feature for Delhi for the first time since 2012. He will take the field against Railways in the final round of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 before the quarterfinals. The Indian stalwart did score a ton in the opening Test of the BGT, but he could only score 90 runs in the remaining eight innings on that tour. Moreover, his weakness on the outside off delivery has been a talking point throughout the series and this game against Railways will allow him to spend some time in the middle and work on his weakness and head to the ODIs against England with confidence. Ravindra Jadeja (Saurashtra) Image Source: PTI The 36-year-old all-rounder had an ordinary series as he only scored 135 runs and picked up only 4 wickets in his last three Tests against Australia. His underperformance outside Asia of late has raised questions on his abilities and the game against Delhi will offer him an opportunity to display his all-round prowess and seal his spot in India's regulars for the future Tests. Shubman Gill (Punjab) Image Source: X The young cricketer, often termed as the generational talent, has been out of runs in red ball cricket for India of late. In last five Test innings, Shubman Gill has only scored 93 runs, and this has sparked criticism and has also raised questions on his selection despite being out of runs. The game against Karnataka at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium will be an opportunity for him to get back in form by scoring some valuable runs for his side.
