A franchise that could wait for seventeen years could not wait for another week to do the parade. The reason they give was that the foreign players will leave soon. And exactly this is what a police officer anonymously told the Deccan Herald after the heinous stampede that happened during the RCB victory parade. Initially the plan was to organize an open-bus victory parade. But keeping in mind the office hours, the local police warned both the Karnataka State Government and the Royal Challengers Bengaluru management to shift it to a Sunday. By then, the craze will cool down, and things will be easier to handle. But the management reasoned about the foreign players' departure. The police even requested to condense the celebration to a single place with limited entry. But the management and government had other plans. The officer anonymously said, "We tried to discourage the government as well as the RCB franchise from Tuesday night against having any celebrations on Wednesday. We told them it would be ill-advised and recommended holding the event next Sunday when emotions would have cooled down. We told them not to take out any procession, but to hold it in one place in an organised manner. Bring the players to the stadium and finish it there. "Their argument was that the players, especially the foreigners, would leave today or tomorrow. Naturally, the government would want to take mileage out of it. If the government had refused, that would have led to another kind of chaos." After the IPL was paused due to the Indo-Pak tensions, the Karnataka government did not want to risk the return, and thus leading to the huge massacre. Police have being deployed since the morning, returning being drained, mobbed by the crazy fans on the streets The officer said, "On Tuesday, till 5.30 am, all our staff - from the police commissioner to constables - were on the streets and completely exhausted. It was total madness. This kind of frenzy we have never seen." But what was the reason behind the stampede? To the naked eye, it was the huge crowd standing on a temporary slab on the drain near the Chinnaswamy Stadium, and it collapsed, resulting in panic. But what needs focus is that just 2 ambulances were allocated, and that too inside the stadium. In a report from India Today, Nikhil Naz, Consulting Editor – Sports, wrote about his personal experience, which is haunting. He wrote, "In the melee, young people-mostly girls and some teenage boys-got trampled upon. There were no security personnel in this area. Security had restricted themselves to only the gates. The people who got trampled fainted and were brought inside the stadium to be taken to hospital in the ambulances that were deployed inside. Some were taken to hospital by ambulance. But because there were only two ambulances inside, some weren't lucky enough to get one." He wrote, several unconscious individuals who couldn’t get ambulances were carried by security personnel, who ran about 500 meters through blocked roads to reach moving traffic and arrange transport to nearby hospitals. While heading to Gate 13, they got caught in a chaotic crowd driven by three different moving directions. At one point, they lost control and were pushed around before managing to get out of the crush. While some managed to withstand the pressure, but women and younger fans could have easily been trampled. Who is responsible? Later in a press conference, the Karnataka Chief Minister acknowledged that 11 people lost their lives and 50 were injured. He even announced INR 5 lakh as compensation and free treatment for the injured, but how can money compensate for the loss. The love, the passion, RCB bragged about on their social media post had been injected into that kid's brain so that he didn't even inform his parents and returned dead out of love. View this post on Instagram A post shared by NDTV (@ndtv) Deputy CM, DK Shivakumar confirmed that there were 5000 police personnel, but according to the journalist, most of them were near the gate! The roads from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswami had a totally different scenario from the ones inside! While the fans panted, the players had their equal share of laughs; the management came out clarifying that they had no idea about what's going on outside! Anushka Sharma shared the bus ride on her Instagram story, RCB posted the crowd on their social media, and still had no idea! Rajeev Shukla to Arun Dhumal, the big delegates of BCCI, called out the issue. While some claimed that it might have happened anywhere, some claimed it was a particular team's celebration. So no one had the authority to save lives! Political banters started, the ministers came out acknowledging the faults, but then? Many called out the overly expressive RCB fans— madly worshipping a man perfectly secured in a bus, surrounded by police, smile sticked between ears Dragging away barricades last night, breaking windshields, packing up metro stations, dancing on a temporary slab, blocking roads, drunk dancing on the road blocking cars, and what not! They did everything that can be tagged as nonsense for a cricketer winning a trophy. But anyway, RCB won the trophy after 17 years, as they said, "WE'VE WON ALL THE BATTLES AND THE WAR." And both War and battles claim lives!
