Virat Kohli, one of the modern greats of cricket, is yet to win his first Indian Premier League (IPL). Recent performances of Royal Challengers Bengaluru have once again ignited the dream of the elusive trophy being finally taken home. At a time like this, especially after retirement from Tests, an IPL win would be the icing on the cake for Kohli-who has stood by RCB through thick and thin for 18 seasons. He enjoys a fabulous career and is considered one of the country's best captains. Kohli recorded 40 wins as India Test skipper, setting a high watermark. Under him, India also managed to win Tests overseas on a somewhat regular basis. Since his debut, he has played under many captains, both in the IPL and international cricket-a double debut he shared back in 2008. In recent times, Kohli has also played under Jitesh Sharma’s captaincy in an IPL match against Sunrisers Hyderabad. Let's run through five cricketers who have held the distinguished honour of captaining Virat Kohli, which might surprise many: Tanmay Srivastava: Before the Kohli era, the Tanmay Srivastava helm had ruled Indian 19s for a couple of series. Srivastava led India in the 2007 tri-series against Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, in which Kohli was also in the squad. Ayush Badoni: In a rare twist of fate, it was Man of the Match Ayush Badoni who came out on top in a Ranji Trophy game against Railways back in January. Kohli had come back to the domestic arena to maintain his national team eligibility. While he didn't get many runs, Badoni shall certainly never forget the honour of captaincy with such a legend. Piyush Chawla: Kohli had Piyush Chawla as his captain prior to Kohli's leadership of the U-19 World Cup in 2008. Chawla was the regular U-19 captain quite frequently during 2006 and 2007 and also captained a tri-series involving England and Malaysia with Kohli in the side. Though Sehwag was never the "official" captain, he did captain Kohli in the absence of the official captain. Kohli had played under Sehwag in the 2012 Border-Gavaskar Trophy and also played him in the last Test down in Adelaide before India was demolished by Australia. Suresh Raina: There are probably not many who remember Suresh Raina captaining Kohli in 2010 when India toured Zimbabwe. The tour came with an ODIs tri-series, involving Sri Lanka, and a two-match T20I series against Zimbabwe. India performed poorly in the ODIs in a tri-series but bounced back to win 2-0 in the T20Is.
