In cricket, there is a famous saying: 'Form is temporary but class is permanent.' The games have the greatest players, and when it is all on the line, they deliver. Rohit Sharma is no exception; he has shown it time and again over his career. But at 37, in the twilight of his career, it seems that Rohit is living off old memories in IPL 2025. A little over a month after leading India to yet another ICC title, the contributions of his alliance this IPL season were few and far. It has been tough going for the Mumbai Indians, and Rohit's form is a bigger worry for the five-time champions. Rohit's long-standing future with MI was basically the talk of the town last season, especially on the backdrop of the franchise deciding to hand over the captaincy. Nevertheless, the team retained him for a whopping Rs. 16.30 crores, the maximum he has ever earned from the IPL in 18 years. That decision cut deep into MI's auction purse. So far, that investment hasn't paid off at all. Rohit has been unable to make any significant contributions during his four outings, mainly leaving the middle order to clean up the mess later. He has averaged close to ₹43 lakh per run scored this season. With just 34 minutes spent in the last two matches, he has managed to earn an astounding ₹48 lakh per minute. Rohit has a well-known past of being unsuccessful in the IPL. In the last six seasons, he has scored more than 400 runs only once. Now that he is no longer captain, his great asset of leadership qualities doesn't hold the same value. Rohit seems to be out of sync with the team’s new philosophy under Hardik, but it seems Hardik respects his input. The real issue seems that Rohit has been absent from the field. He missed the Lucknow Super Giants match due to injury, acted mainly as an impact substitute in three matches, and sat out the bowling innings. MI has remained far from successful, having won only one of the five games; with such limited participation from Rohit, even if he gets to bat, it raises questions about how his playing setting could help in turnaround. Is there a chance Rohit Sharma can recover? Highly likely. But will he do so? That's for the future to decide. Will Mumbai Indians, carrying a load of ₹16.30 crore, do so? Definitely not. The question left is will the franchise still want to carry him? Only time will tell-about it. The question is-will they have time?
