Australian wicketkeeper-batter Josh Inglis has entered the IPL 2026 mini auction at a base price of INR 2 crore. However, his limited availability has raised big question marks among franchises. Inglis has informed that he would be available for only 25% of the tournament, and this has already raised a doubt as to whether teams should invest in him. Inglis has played for Punjab Kings in IPL 2025 and was vital to their run to the final. But PBKS released him prior to the retention deadline given that they wanted a player who could be available for the whole season. With the December 16 auction in Abu Dhabi drawing near, here are three main reasons why Inglis may go unsold. 3 Reasons Why Josh Inglis May Go Unsold in IPL 2026 Auction Limited Availability for IPL 2026 The biggest concern for the teams is the limited availability of Inglis. His personal commitments, including his wedding, will clash with most of the IPL 2026 season, which means he can only take part in 25% of the matches. Franchises need to think twice before splurging big bucks on a wicketkeeper-batter who can feature in only a handful of matches of the season. While Inglis is a top T20 player who can bat at any position, teams prefer those players who can feature in most of the tournament. Picking a player available for only a handful of matches will disturb the team's balance and planning. Also Read | Why is Glenn Maxwell not registered in 2026 IPL mini auction? High Base Price Not Matching Availability Inglis has kept his base price quite high at INR 2 crore, considering he will only be able to feature in one-fourth of the season. Despite good purse amounts, teams like CSK, KKR, DC, LSG, and SRH are very unlikely to spend INR 2 crore or more on somebody who cannot play the full league. Most franchises would instead invest the same amount in two or three quality domestic players who can stay with the squad throughout the season. Average T20 Numbers in 2025 While Inglis is a fine T20 cricketer, his numbers in 2025 are average. His stats in T20s during the year were: Innings Runs Avg SR 50s 6s HS 21 483 26.8 164.8 3 25 78 These are decent but not strong enough to convince the teams to spend a big amount on limited availability. Franchises can look for in-form players who can make a difference for the whole season at the same price. With all these points, Inglis may find it tough to attract bids when the auction finally happens.
