Pakistan have been handed a financial sanction following their opening fixture of the 2026 ICC Women's T20 World Cup against India at Edgbaston. The ICC confirmed that the side was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the match and has consequently been fined 5% of its match fee. Match referee Trudy Anderson imposed the penalty after determining that Pakistan finished one over short of the required rate once all applicable time allowances had been considered. The charge was brought by on-field umpires Claire Polosak and Jacquline Williams, alongside third umpire Eloise Sheridan and fourth umpire Sue Redfern. Under Article 2.22 of the ICC Code of Conduct for Players and Player Support Personnel, teams are penalised for failing to complete their overs within the allotted time. The regulation stipulates a fine of 5% of the match fee for every over a side falls short of the target. Her guilty plea allowed the penalty to be imposed without further proceedings. The disciplinary setback came after a difficult outing on the field for Pakistan. They suffered a 64-run defeat against India in their tournament opener at Edgbaston, a result that significantly affected their standing in Group A. Following the loss, Pakistan slipped to fifth place among the six teams in the group with a net run rate of -3.200. Notably, India opened their 2026 Women’s T20 World Cup campaign with a commanding performance against Pakistan at Edgbaston. Smriti Mandhana anchored the innings with a fluent 68, while Harmanpreet Kaur and Richa Ghosh provided crucial contributions in the middle order. Deepti Sharma then starred with the ball, claiming a five-wicket haul as India bundled out Pakistan inside 17 overs. Well, Pakistan will now turn their attention to their second group-stage fixture against South Africa on June 17. The match will also be played at Edgbaston, with both sides looking to register their first points of the tournament after difficult starts to their respective campaigns.
