The ongoing first Test match of the 2025-26 Ashes at Perth, has been raining wickets, with Mitchell Starc claiming another one early morning. The wicket came with a stunning catch. In the fifth ball of the very first over of the second innings, Starc bagged the English opener Zak Crawley with a full-pitched delivery. Crawley tried to drive it straight, but Starc who had just steadied from his delivery, jumped on his left and took the one-handed blinder. The third umpire gave it a check before calling it out. Last day, former Indian players Ravichandran Ashwin and Dinesh Karthik mocked the Perth Test mentioning how 19 wickets falling in a day at Perth is still a "great day," but not in the subcontinent. The first Test of the Ashes is halfway done, with the first innings done for both teams by day one. England, who batted first, was bundled out for 172. Harry Brook, who was aggressive since the second ball he faced, was the only one to cross the 50-run mark (52 off 61). The other decent contributions were from Ollie Pope (46), Jamie Smith (33) and Ben Duckett (21). The rest of the English batters could not even reach double digits. The scene on the Australian side is more pathetic, ending with a trail of 40 runs. Neither of the Australian batters crossed 30 runs, with 26 runs being the highest one scored, by the keeper Alex Carey. Australia's inning ended at 132, with the English captain being the hero rattling down the order with 5 wickets for 23. The other two pacers, Jofra Archer and Brydon Carse took 2 and 3 wickets each. Currently on day 2, Ben Duckett and Ollie Pope are batting, before the Lunch has been declared. England is trailing by 99 runs.
