Hobart Hurricanes have a added 13-year-old Mia Barwick for the T20 Spring Challenge in lieu of departing Heather Graham. Graham had stepped down from the side, heading over for the T20 World Cup after Tayla Vlaeminck's injury cut short her tournament. The pace bowler has made waves in the Cricket Tasmania Premier League and also featured in the Under-16 and Under-19 Female National Championships. She was with the side in the Perth Scorchers game, carrying drinks, and might get an opportunity to participate in the final stages of this series, which is also a build-up for the WBBL competition. Hurricanes said: "At only 13 years of age, the Hobart Hurricanes are proud to see a Cricket Tasmania pathways athlete given exposure to the professional game early on in Barwick's career." Among the Sydney Sixers, 15-year-old allrounder Caoimhe Bray really stood tall. She had impressed for Australia Under-19s and went on to take 2 for 19 on debut for ACT. She claimed the wicket of Laura Harris of Brisbane Heat which was just a day after Harris had scored a 46-ball hundred for Brisbane Heat. The Spring Challenge was intended to be a tool to replace fewer games in the WBBL, which will host a 40-game regular season. Initially meant as a state competition, however, pressure from New South Wales and Victoria saw to it that it will sync with the WBBL clubs.
