The SA20 Season 4 auction scheduled for the coming days has seen a humongous turnout, with 784 players registering for the Johannesburg event on September 9. They include 13 Indian players, among whom are seasoned names Piyush Chawla, Siddharth Kaul, and Ankit Rajpoot. According to BCCI rules, only retired or Indian cricketers ineligible for India or the IPL are allowed to join overseas leagues. This is an opportunity for names who have retreated from traditional Indian cricket but want to prove themselves on a global platform. Indian Players in the SA20 Auction Indian list comprises Mahesh Ahir (Gujarat), Sarul Kanwar (Punjab), Anureet Singh Kathuria (Delhi), Nikhil Jaga (Rajasthan), Mohamed Faidh, KS Naveen (Tamil Nadu), Ansari Marouf, Imran Khan (UPCA), Venkatesh Galipelly, and Atul Yadav (UPCA), excluding Chawla, Kaul, and Rajpoot. As far as reserve prices are concerned, the majority of the Indian players have kept their minimum at 200,000 Rand. Piyush Chawla has the highest reserve price among them at 1,000,000 Rand, with Imran Khan available for 500,000 Rand. The six franchises, MI Cape Town, Joburg Super Kings, Durban Super Giants, Sunrisers Eastern Cape, Paarl Royals, and Pretoria Capitals, together have a purse of USD 7.4 million to accommodate 84 positions. Players will also be permitted to sign a Wildcard player, whose remuneration will not be under the salary cap. Just a single Indian player has played in the SA20 so far. Dinesh Karthik represented Paarl Royals during the last season, after announcing his retirement from all cricket, including the IPL. A strong group of 40 players has been sent by Pakistan as well, with Azam Khan, Imam-ul-Haq, Abrar Ahmed, and Saim Ayub representing them. Interestingly enough, even though Indian businessmen, particularly IPL team owners, own them, no SA20 franchise has selected a Pakistani player in the first three seasons of the league. Whether that will change in Season 4 or not is to be seen. Some of the best names available from South Africa are Aiden Markram, Lungi Ngidi, Wiaan Mulder, and Keshav Maharaj, as well as up-and-comers such as Dewald Brevis and Kwena Maphaka. Quinton de Kock, Anrich Nortje, and Tabraiz Shamsi, regulars in T20 cricket, are also in the mix. SA20 2025-26 will run from December 26 until January 25, with MI Cape Town defending the title. With a combination of international superstars, retired Indian cricketers, and youngsters, the auction can expect to see a lot of drama and huge signings.
