Fifteen-year-old Ankit Chatterjee broke the record of legendary cricketer Sourav Ganguly, who made his Ranji Trophy debut at 17 years of age. Ganguly had made his first-class debut during the final of the 1989-90 Ranji Trophy against Delhi in place of his brother Snehasish Ganguly, who is the current president of the Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB). Ankit is a student of Bangaon High School in the North 24 Parganas district and represents Shyambazar Club which is more than 75 km from his school, at age-group level cricket. Due to his fine performances in the age-group competition, he had been included in Bengal's playing XI for the match against Haryana in Ranji Trophy 2024-25.
