A shot that got a massive amount of craze last night was Shreyas Iyer's boundary in the second ball of the 18th over against Jasprit Bumrah. Bumrah made no mistake, crashing the ball right on Iyer's toe. But Iyer had his plans. He simply opened the blade of his bat and deflected the ball to the short third man. However, it is not the first time Shreyas has done this. Back in 2015, when the young Shreyas was playing in this league for the first time, he played the same shot off the same ball of Bumrah. However, it was for the vintage Delhi Daredevils. In that match, he went on to score 83 off 56 balls, playing a crucial role in that day's win against Mumbai. Even then, he was the player of the match. In 2015, he was awarded the Emerging Player of the Season. In 2025, he is the first captain to lead three teams to the final. Chasing 204, Iyer delivered a captain’s knock, smashing an unbeaten 87 off just 41 balls, laced with 5 fours and 8 towering sixes. Despite early setbacks, including the quick dismissals of Prabhsimran Singh and Priyansh Arya, Iyer anchored the innings with composure and flair. His partnerships with Josh Inglis and Nehal Wadhera laid the foundation before he exploded in the death overs. Mumbai, who posted 203/6 thanks to contributions from Tilak Varma (44), Suryakumar Yadav (44), and Naman Dhir (37), were outdone by poor bowling at the backend. None of the MI bowlers managed to contain Iyer's onslaught. Ashwani Kumar took two wickets but was expensive. Iyer’s magnificent finish earned him the Player of the Match award and steered PBKS to a memorable win.
